About Us

The Sprayberry High School Band has a long-standing tradition of music excellence. The band has been awarded hundreds of championship trophies and has earned a reputation as being one of the "Best High School Marching Bands in the Country." In 2000, the band was named one of the top 20 bands in the country by "Band Director Magazine".

For the last two decades the band program at Sprayberry has had a tradition of Symphonic Excellence and has a legacy of thousands of alumni musicians who had their lives changed under the direction of Sprayberry Band's directors.

The Sprayberry Band of Gold has 8 performing groups: Concert II Band, Concert I Band, Symphonic II Band, Symphonic I Band, Jazz Band, Marching Band, Percussion Ensemble, and Winter Guard. In addition, band students have the opportunity to perform with the full orchestra and the pit orchestra. The Symphonic I Band has earned Superior Ratings for the past 20 years in Level VI music.

In April 2001, the Symphonic I and Symphonic II Bands traveled to Anaheim, California to compete in the California Music Showcase Festival. Symphonic II Band was awarded the First Place Award while Symphonic I Band received the Grand Masters Award for all bands attending the Festival.

In April 2000, the Symphonic 1 and Symphonic 2 Bands traveled to New York City to compete in the 2000 Performing Arts Consultants of New York Concert Festival. Awards received at the festival include Symphonic I Band - Division Champion, Symphonic II Band - Division Champion, Symphonic I Band - Grand Champion.

In April 1999, Concert Band, Symphonic II Band, Symphonic I Band and the Jazz Band competed at the North American Music Festival in Toronto, Canada. The Concert Band received a Superior Rating in their division and Symphonic II Band and Symphonic I Band each won first place in their divisions. Symphonic I Band also won the Grand Masters Trophy, awarded to the Band with the overall highest score of the six-week, fifty-four band competition.

In 1997, the Symphonic I Band, Symphonic II Band, and Concert Band competed in Washington, DC at the Festival International Music Festival where Symphonic II and Symphonic I Bands each won first place in their divisions.

In 1996, Concert Band, Symphonic II Band and Symphonic I Bands were featured performance bands on stage at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

The Concert Band, Symphonic II Band and Symphonic I Band have performed at the National Concert Band Festival in Chicago.

The Sprayberry High School "Band of Gold" continues to be rated among the top band programs in the country. The marching band won its first Grand Championship Trophy in 1976 and has not slowed down since. The band has amassed over 275 First Place and Grand Championship Awards in the past 30 years, and has performed in the Nationally televised Rose Bowl Parade, Cotton Bowl, Citrus Bowl, Gator Bowl, Outback Bowl, Peach Bowl, Fiesta Bowl and The Cherry Blossom Parades.
