The Sprayberry High School Band has a long-standing tradition of music excellence. The band has been awarded hundreds of championship trophies and has earned a reputation as being one of the "Best High School Marching Bands in the Country."
The Marching Band is the most visual component of the Band of Gold (BOG). The Marching Band serves two important functions at Sprayberry High School. First, we represent the school at multiple functions per year, including all Varsity Football games, Pep Rallies and several Parades. In addition, the Marching band prepares an 8 to 10 minute competition show that is performed approximately 15 times a year at football games, competitions, and exhibitions. The Marching Band is open to all instrumentalists and students who would like to participate in the Color Guard program.
The Color Guard is a unit in the Marching Band, much like any of the instruments. In the field show that the marching band presents, the Color Guard is the group that presents the visual side of the show. They often wear costumes that represent the theme of the show, and will use dance, choreography and specialized equipment like flags, sabres and rifles to help portray the music elements in a visual way.
The marching band season runs from Mid-July to Early November and is an extracurricular activity. All instrumentalists (woodwinds, brass and percussion) should be enrolled in a band class in order to participate in marching band.
All incoming 9th grade band students are ENCOURAGED to come to Head-Start Camp and just see what Marching Band is all about...at no financial obligation to mom and dad! Head-Start Camp is our annual pre-summer band camp. All marching band students are required to attend including students who wish to join or try marching band. Students will spend the morning learning marching maneuvers and will play music in the afternoon.
It's the best way to kick off the Summer!
All Marching Band students (this
includes Color Guard)
must complete the registration process by May 25.
