Our Goal
The Southern Invitational Music Festival is one of the most prestigious and longest running marching band events for marching bands throughout the Southeast. The Invitational hosts over 1,500 band students, directors, instructors and chaperones and fans each October. Dan Martin, the Director Emeritus of the Sprayberry Band, started the Southern Invitational in 1983 as a two part contest for marching bands.
The Southern Invitational is unique because it was created and still operates as a service to music education, not as a major fundraiser for the band. It is our goal to provide a high quality experience for the directors, audience members, and performers. Our overriding goal is that our participating bands will learn from the comments of expert judges and have a positive performance experience while receiving recognition and appreciation for their significant achievements. We choose judges known for their expertise and their ability to be positive in their input and evaluation.
It is also our goal to offer every band member, staff member, director and family member a memorable and positive experience. From our dedicated volunteers and band hosts, to the personalized Southern Invitational Banners given to each band, we hope to show each guest to our campus our appreciation for your support and encouragement of the outstanding young men and women who will perform.
Sprayberry High School, Principal Sara Fetterman, and the Sprayberry Band Boosters are proud to bring you the Southern Invitational Music Festival, an event that touches so many lives in a positive way.
